Description
Tedeschi Capitel Fontana Recioto is a sweet red dessert wine from the Veneto wine-growing region.
Tedeschi has a long and varied history stretching back to 1824 when Nicalo Tedeschi purchased several vineyards in the Valpolicella region and, today, Tedeschi remains a family business. It is one of the foremost producers of Amarone, Ripasso and Recioto wines, in the Veneto region. In total, the family manages some 74 hectares of vineyards, of which 29 are family owned.
The grapes used to make Tedeschi Capitel Fontana Recioto are sourced mainly from the Monte Fontana vines of Pedemonte and as well as other vineyards belonging to the winery. The grapes are hand harvested at the end of September / beginning of October and are a combination of 30% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella with 10% comprise of Rossignola, Oseleta, Negrara and Dindarella. The grapes are then dried in small wooden crates known as “Arele” in humidity and temperature controlled warehouses. The grapes are dried for 4 months during which time they lose a great deal of water content, this greatly concentrates the flavours and sweetness of the grapes. After 4 months the grapes are soft pressed and naturally fermented prior to ageing in Slavonian oak barrels for 2 years and a further 6 months in bottle prior to release. Residual sugar is 92 g/L.
The nose has aromas of sweet fruit: raspberries, wild blackberries and blueberries combined with some spicy notes from the Slavonia oak. The palate is elegant but structured and superbly balanced. The palate is sweet, but not oversweet with a lingering persistent finish.
