Description
“She has five wines from the 2018 vintage on sale in Ireland, including two new wines, a Côte de Nuits-Villages “Les Retraits” (€45) and the Beaune 1er Cru “Les Blanches Fleurs” (€68), along with the new vintages of the 2018 Nuits-St-Georges “Les Longecourts”, the Beaune Les Prévoles and the St-Romain “Le Jarron”. She says “2018 was one of the hottest vintages since 2003. The wines are deep in colour, plush and supple, with very ripe tannins. It worked out well for me, but you had to be careful.”
Curley started out producing 2,000 bottles and has now grown her output to 9,000 bottles. The wines have sold very well despite the pandemic. “We are small and a little spoiled in Burgundy; there is always a demand. I love living and working in Ballyhaunis, but I want to get back to France as soon as I can.” -Irish Times
Blanches Fleurs is a tiny, little known beaune Premier Cru designation in Burgundy. It is a section of larger vineyard of the same name which is otherwise classified under the village level Beaune appellation.
There is just 0.36 of a hectare (0.89 acres) of Premier Cru Pinot Noir vines. Even so, production is split across three or four domaines, including Dublère, the punning estate of American Blair Pethel.
